Workforce Development Program
Not sure what to do with your future? That's OK. Just do something!
Program Profile
The workforce development program provides services through the Summit County Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
- This program is for youth ages 14-21.
- To qualify, you must either be in foster care currently or have emancipated from foster care and are living independently.
As part of our ongoing commitment to youth and families, we will never give up on YOU. We want to see you succeed in life. We want to see you live on your own. We want you to see the opportunities that are in front of you.
We match a Youth Support Coordinator (YSC) with you to focus on three areas:
1. Improvement of basic skills
2. Attainment of a high school diploma or GED
3. Attend college, receive job training or find employment
You will work with your YSC, one-on-one, and sometimes with others in a group, to work toward success in the areas mentioned above.
Some things you may be involved with are:
· Tutoring and similar services
· Alternative education services
· Summer employment
· Paid and unpaid work experience
· Occupational skill training
· Leadership development, including community service
· Support services
· Comprehensive guidance and counseling, including drug and alcohol abuse
· Adult mentoring
· Follow-up services for at least twelve (12) months
